Identifying Your Critical Activities

This step is called ‘Business Impact Analysis’ or BIA. It involves analysing your different business functions, processes and activities to see what effect disrupting them might have. The loss of certain functions may represent no more than an inconvenience. In other cases however, the ability of the organisation to deliver on its basic mission may be compromised. Further work is focussed (only) on those functions which have been identified as (time) critical.

Deliverables from this step include an impact model of disruption over time and the required recovery timetable for the organisation to prevent serious loss.
